“Shanghai Dumpling King” vs “Shanghai House”

#13 on our 100 Things to Try Before You Die list. We’ve been to a few more, on the list since the last post, but haven’t had time to review yet. I promise we’ll get around to them, this one though is special cuz it’s close to our hearts. Previously we wrote a review about these dumplings and praised them. This time, we still praise :D but also added a competitor to make things more exciting. Just a few hundred feet down Balboa, there’s another soup dumpling serving spot. We have heard excellent reviews for both places so we decided to see for ourselves. In the end, Sophia and I had different opinions, but in the end, they’re both FUCKING DELICIOUS. Sophia likes Shanghai Dumpling King because the flavors are lighter, softer, more like home-style cooking. We both also really enjoyed the drunken chicken and beef egg soup which we didn’t have at Shanghai House. She also prefers the service from Shanghai Dumpling King. As for me, I like Shanghai House because it feels more clean, the dishes have a little more “Zang!” in them, and the service is all the same for me. Prices are similar in both and wait time also similar. Basically, you can’t go wrong with either or.

Must order: Soup Dumplings, Drunken Chicken, Eggplant and Shrimp, Tea Duck, and String Bean
